Need a new one. Drove ten miles sunday to put fuel in and the bugger wouldn't come off. Drove home again.
There seem to be differing makes available. Can anyone reccomend a good one that actually fits properly please? :)
I see JK are doing locking ones at a discount. Are they any good?

Okay, I get it, sponsors and all that. I'll re-phrase it.
Are there any types of cap or companies selling them that are perhaps not as good as others?
Cheers. :?

My bus came with a cap that would need a ballistic missile to break, but was just a screw on jobby and I did not fancy sleeping in a petrol bomb.

So I switched to this one from Custom and Commercial
resize.aspx

and it works fine. It is key operated, so is secure, though it can trickle a bit of fuel out if I overfill and take corners too fast...too fast, that's a laugh isn't it. If only. I have heard that these are not suitable for pre-70 buses, but mine is a 69 and its fine.

Got a mild steel one from Just Kampers. Does the job nicely. If you don't want it to trickle fuel out you need to put the green paper gasket in there with it :)

I must be the exception then...
I've had three of the locking caps like in the pic above, from 2 different suppliers, and had issues with all of them...from ***** gaskets to the lock mechanism failing within 3 or 4 uses.
I gave up as didn't want to fork out for a proper VW original, and just got a new standard one....great tight fit, doesn't leak and doesn't wind me up...happy days again without fuel fumes 8)

Wow this was me, bought a couple of locking ones but they were rubbish to say the least, went back to OG...perfect

The C&C locking cap is not perfect, as I said it spills fuel if I overfill. But, and this is a big issue for me, I can't risk the chance of some drunken tosser droppong a match in my tank whilst I am asleep inside. It does the job pending a flap lock being sourced, which is possibly the ideal solution.

Same - I bought the locking one from JK and its ****. Fiddly hit and miss lock rubber gasket fell off straight away, doesn't seal properly - another example of poor quality tat being sold.
Found the 43 year std one works best ;)

vwed on here sells OEM locking caps for a good price.

Drop him a message and see if he's got any left :)

EDIT: noticed you're got a '69, so maybe not that. Still worth a message tbh. Ed is a top man!

As George says ^^^ . If Ed says it`ll fit then it`ll fit, if Ed says it won`t then it won`t and if Ed says it good or genuine then that is exactly what it will be.

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,,, Ed seriously is a top fella

So glad I posted this and thanks everyone for all your input. I was about to get a lockable aftermarket one but can't say i'm enthralled about spilling any fuel. I have been known to reach very high speeds of 60mph sometimes even going round corners  so i'll try and get an og one. I think C & C do a non lockable GERMAN QUALITY, if that's as near as og as we can expect now. Sadly, Ed's will not fit mine as that's a really good price too. I'll see if if there's anything suitable at Stanford Hall but failing that, it looks like a German quality one then.
Youl'd think with all our engineering and manufacturing expertise in this country that someone here could come up with one within the tolerancies required even if it's a bit dearer, than the tat currently on offer.
Cheers, Shaun.

So the drunk just removes the locking fuel cap with a knife. This time he not only blows the pair of you up dropping a match in your tank but slices his hand first. ;)

If you are genuinely worried that might happen you might want to think about camping somewhere a little more safe.

Or get a big **** off dog, or a tiger, or a big bear, or an angry goose.

Sorry I know I am making light of the situation but it never occured to me someone might stick a match in my tank and blow me and the van up. I guess thats becuase it is normally pissing down with rain when I use the bloody thing.
