Fuel gauge not working

Hi!

Got my mot coming up and one known fault is the fuel gauge not working. Is there a diagnostic elimination route to follow or should I just start working my way through and hope I don't miss anything? As an aside, the dash lights don't work at the moment, new bulb and holder ready to go in but could these issues be related?

Had the same issue myself at the start of last year - ended up replacing the sender which sits above the tank

that's a great guide. All I can say is check the earth points, I cleaned mine up recently and gauge now says between 3/4 and full when tank is full whereas before it read just over half!

My gauge hasn't worked for 10 years, never failed an MOT yet for it. Don't think it's tested.
