Somehow, petrol is making its way into the filler cap housing, open the flap and there is petrol laying in the bottom.
This has happened a couple of times before, but I had put that down to over filling the tank. Currently have about a third of a tank and have just noticed fuel in said place again. The filler cap is the original non locking which appears to be a good snug fit and the seal looks fine. I did take a couple of roundabouts a bit swift this morning but even if that had caused the petrol to get back up the filler neck, I would have thought the cap would have provided a good seal.
Any ideas folks?
Thanks.

I used to get petrol coming up the filler pipe and spilled out the top. My cap also seemed a good tight fit. Changed it anyway and sorted my problem. The new one was a real real tight fit. :)

Hiya Pete,

Yep, having had the filler pipe apart several times I can vouch for the liklihood of the cap/cap seal being bad. There is really no other way petrol can make it into that little well other than over filling. By the way, did the petrol drain out of the well? There is a drain tube in that well that is supposed to drain any spilt petrol out of the well. It often gets plugged up though.

Think that might be my problem too  can you buy just the seal or is it a new cap, if so where did you get yours from?

Bought it off the forum! Only cost £12, so cheap fix. That was for the whole cap.
