I picked up a 2nd hand VW Solex 34 pict carb. Fitted it and saw fuel drip from the throttle valve lever. This only happens when engine is off. When it's running it is obviously using the fuel. Let it dry and cool down then operated the throttle with my fingers engine off and sure enough fuel is dripping from both sides of this. Any ideas on a fix. To remove this it seems I would need to drill out the butterfly. It all seems tight and secure. Any thoughts.

You can rebush the spindle. They are available on ebay and it replaces the plastic ones that tend to wear with a brass version. I've done it and it's a pretty easy job

if it drips when the engine is off then it must be coming from the float chamber (surely?). Is it over full? - so is the float mechanism working ok? just a thought

That was my first thought but I took the carb off re stripped it everything is working fine. Fuel shut off valve etc. there is movement in the spindle which is not there on the 30 31 I also have. Sat it on the bench depressed throttle lever and you can see the fuel well out.

As above more than likely the spindal bushes, cheap enough to buy and a fairly straight forward job and if you keep taking the top off your gonna need a new gasket for there, may aswell get a rebuild kit aswell if your gonna change the. Bushes and do the whole thing, fairly straight forward and there's loads of info on the net for doing it.
