Hey,

Was driving my bay the other day and noticed with the cold flaps open a smell of fuel developed in the cab? (never noticed with hot flaps but have had engine out since)

I checked all round and couldn't find any leaks......however when walking past the rear intake vents i could also smell fuel, it seems to be coming from the thin tube, running up and down (what is this????), it runs though the engine bay, and to a rubber pipe which isnt connected to anything.

any advice on what this could be would be great.

Thanks all

Luke

Fuel tank breathers, normally the rubber hoses that connect the pipes together rot or split.
Change the hoses and you should be good to go.
Have a search for fuel tank / petrol tank breathers as different years have different breathing arrangements

the thin tubes are there for the tank vent and in the bay they should be teed into the airbox so that the vapour/droplets (as it should have cooled again and turned back to a liquid) is fed into the carb to be burnt off rather than escape to atmosphere.... the fact that you can smell it in the carb is probably due to the open pipe feeding into the engine bay this air fuel mix will then be sucked in by the fan and thus into the cab when warm air is piped the fact you cant smell it when warm air is a little strange but then you get other smells that may be masking it a touch.....
