got a prob with gear selection - was doing a search and found this.....................

'Ive got a 71 US import Westy and my gear change is very sloppy and it jumps out of 3rd on deacceleration sometimes. Ive put a new plastic bush on the front rod under the stick and replaced the plate that goes under the stick mount, also replaced the coupling at the gearbox end. There seems to be a fair amount of movement where the gearstick ball and pin locate in the front rod , is that normal ,What else is there to do,any imput most welcome. Cheers Chris'

I have the same problem as this - any ideas guys???
I have tried adjusting the gear stick plate for ages - its always 1st and second that seem to be the problem.

Is it worth changing the stick??
It seems worse since i changed the rear gear coupling!

cheers
Rob

Most people change the rubber in the OG coupling and bin the ***** repro one, for the reason you found out :?
Deffo worth a go, wont cost owt either. Also worth doing an 'box oil change, remebering to make sure the fill nut will undo before emptying out the oil
