Hi I need to change my front gear rod bush on my 72 westy. At first it was hard to change down from 3rd to 2nd now it's hard to select 1&2 just goes in to 3&4th there is a lot of slack in the front bush that goes in to the front of the gear rod. So I've ordered a new one I don't know how to fit it can some one guide me please. Thanks x

Might be slightly different as I had the front and main rods out of the bus for resto purposes. First I fed the large one through then attached the front rod with the grub screw. Then it was a case of just putting the new one in. Lots of grease and that was it. The old one was a bit of a pain to pull out but needle nose pliers got it out.

I presume as yours is probably in situ you will have to take the linkage off of the gearbox so you can slide the whole rod back to clear the pin that the bush goes over.

The front bush (no. 10) just pushes into the shift rod.
Undo the coupler that connects the front and rear shift rods and then pull the front one out, fit the bush, grease it up and re-fit the rod. Don't forget to wire the square headed screw after you've tightened it, otherwise it may come undone whilst driving.

Thanks for info now done gear shift has improved some issues to make it work the rear linkage was loose due to the grub screw no fully located but now sorted thanks.
