Got a leak from the front of my Gearbox (70 Bay). I have play ware the shaft goes in to the box. When ive looked through a few parts catalogues ive seen theres a brass guide bush behind the front seal. Im guessing the wear on the bush may cause seal failure so i want to change this at the same time. Is it possible to change it in situ :?:

Thanks for any input.

Yes you can - I did it in my '71.

However it was very difficult. I used garage ramps and a couple of very tall hydraulic jacks, and had to swivel the gearbox etc. I do not consider it appropriate for the faint hearted or for those without the equipment.

If I ever had to do it again I would remove the engine and 'box!!

The other problem at the time (three years ago) was getting hold of the bush. Long Enterprises (USA) manufacture them but will not supply unless in large quantities. I ended up buying them from Bus Boys - the bush was cheap but they refused to quote a postage cost so I reluctantly went ahead and ordered it. They sent the bush (the size of a large marble) in a huge cardboard box (about a 100 times too large) and charged P+P which was more than ten times the cost of the bush.

I will never ever buy anything from Bus Boys again.

Good luck.

Cheers all.
The engines comming out this winter anyway, so i guess il pull the box out then.
Stop them darn leaks for good(well till the next time  ).

Thanks again for your help.
