Hi just a quickie I want yo replace my gearbox oil I just wondered what the good ones were also I'm gonna be putting some Molly slip additive in there too anyone used the Molly slip stuff ??

EP 80/90 GL4, Did mine last weekend, besure it is a calm day if you are doing it on your mono-block drive, else you will spend a fair bit of time scrubbing the windblown oil off !. Don't ask how I know this :)

Also take the van for a decent drive to get the oil warm before draining.

As above but do make sure it is GL4.
Do not use GL5 no matter how wonderful the packaging says it is, it contains stuff that isn't good for our old fashioned boxes.

Also, make sure you can undo the fill plug *before* you undo the drain plug and empty it. Otherwise you end up with a stranded bus with no gearbox oil :msn4:

Picking up on this thread, I am about to perform my first ever gearbox oil change  (newbie!). Is this oil OK to use and do I need about 3litres?

Many thanks

Don't forget to make sure you can undo the filler plug before you drain it

There is obviously a filler plug problem with these gearboxes as you are not the first person to recommend this!

I think it's 3.5L but I may be wrong been 2 years since i last did mine.

I bought 3 bottles of GL4 from Halfords and there was plenty left over. You will need to warm the box and let it drain over night. Put the drain plug in and then fill it until it dribbles out the top. Stinks like cat piss though...

Why not as your local garage if they will do it up on the ramp?
I had mine done in Superdry when it went in for it's MOT.
When you refil the van has to be level. I'd been having problems with gear selection, but a new lot of slippy stuff combined with a new front gearshift rod has sorted my problem out for me (touchwood)
