I am getting a grinding noise from the engine bay!
It goes away when I rev harder but is still there,I believe it is the generator making the noise-Is there a bearing in there that can go?
I have no problem starting or any red lights up .
If it is toast is it an exchange job or is anyone going to Stoner with a replacement I could purchase off them/
Cheers Paul

Remove your belt and start it up, if the sound goes you know it's the fan or alternator.

If it's still there check the tinware around the bottom pulley.

Damm, good tip, just fitted a new belt 'just in case' it made a difference.
Will try when it stop bloody raining, still drying out!!

did you put the same amount of spacer washers in between the two pulleys as you took out as if you did then thats your problem. you have over tightend your belt and pulling your fan on to the fan housing.

new belts are slightly smaller than old ones so the correct amount of spacer shims have to be moved from between the pulleys to in front of the front pully behind the nut. its a case of trial and error until the belt has the correct tension on it..

Also check the strap thats holds the generator on to the pedestal, mine came loose once and it sent the generator/fan out of of wack which in turn made a grinding noise.
