Just had the carbs replaced with twin Weber 34s whilst it is running smooth at lower speeds now seems reluctant to pull above 50mph. :? :?

Have I strangled the engine :?: :?: :?: previously was running twin Solex 40s which seemed to guzzle fuel and didnt want to run smoothly.

What model of 34's ?

You didnt say where they came from - eg. new, second hand/what vehicle etc

34's should be ok on a 1700 so one would suspect insufficient fuel due to blockage or incorrect jets.

Set up info here :- http://www.redlineweber.com/html/Tech/34_ICT_tunning.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Theres a bit of info on jetting here - Mucky green has a lot of experience :- http://www.volkszone.com/VZi/showthread.php?t=555376" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Running a 009 (that's the one without the vacuum) with Petronix fitted.

The carbs are new from JK so hopefully no blockages. Might need a run on a rolling road ... anyone know of one in Hampshire/West Sussex/Surrey border areas

Baz

According to Laurie Pettit the new ones out the box are jetted for a bedford application so have a look at the link I posted in my previous reply and then have a look at what jets are in your carb :)

Looks like I need to get someone to set it up for me then ... :(

anyone know of a/recommend a rolling road down here on the south coast (hampshire/surrey/west sussex border?) :?:

That's true. I had to do the same. Where my cable connects in the engine there is a holed link bar connected to the hex linkage bar, originally mine was connected to the end 'hole'. I reconnected it to the second hole, meaning less pedal travel equating to more throttle opening up.

Also how is your pedal/linkage assembly mine had loads of play between parts. I had to change a few bits that were worn to get the pedal sitting up to its highest point to make sure i was getting full travel. Before i sorted this out, when the pedal was on the floor I think i was only opening up the carbs by about 60/70%.

Mine runs well but i am going to get my jetting checked too as every now and then i have said syptoms rich/lean condition which Trikky's link highlights. Another job to do.

cheers ...as ever some sound advice from the Early Bayers ... I'll be giving it another try on Sunday and then sorting out ASAP as off to Scotland in two weeks time and at a maximum speed of 50mph that's going to be a bl**dy long journey!!

took the bus out for a proper run yesterday ... it might be the sticky accelarator pedal :( ... solved by a heavy boot!!
