I dont know weather its because my van hasnt turned a wheel for about 9 months now or just my hearts in another place but i feel that if i could get the money i wanted for my bus id sell it tomorrow :(
If i do decide to sell it will be complete (estimated at march ish next year) and not an unfinnished project.
Ive been a classic car fan for 20+ years and sorta fell into vdubs about 7 years ago.
Just started to wonder weather my time is up and should move on to another marque.
To be honest, ive been looking at MK1 Escort Mexico's and RS2000's(always loved my classic fords)
Anyone else ever get like this?

Sometimes wonder if I have become a bit blinkered and can only see VWs, particularly busses. Do like the idea of a ratty, 'outlaw' style '60s MG Midget/Healy Sprite. Battered, roll cage, race numbers on the doors and a Rover K series motor with MT75 'box (apparently the current fave setup). Have always wanted a Harris Mk1 Zephyr, and anything with a proper V8 is on my lifes 'must do' list! A mate had a TVR Chimera for a while, said he had to do it, could be the only time in his life he could raise the cash and would always regret it if he hadn't. Got 3 children now so no chance of a repeat!
A neighbour has a really nice '65 Mustang he is toying with changing but too much wonga for me.
Nah, gotta keep the bus. I know it pretty much inside out now and me and my son have had such great times with it that it is pretty much a family member if that doesn't sound too geeky!
Perhaps once finished and used a bit more, your feelings may change?

Theres nothing wrong with venturing away from dubs! I have loved dubs for longer than i care to mention and always have one to call my own as a daily driver, however its not the be all and end all! I have had many minis and classic fords in the past and I am seriously considering an old skool american muscle car at the mo... :)

To be honest there are just too many classics that I would love to have, I dont care if they are fashionable or "cool" at the mo, I just love old stuff!

The main reason I have stuck with dubs for so long is they have always served me well...way better than any other car, classic modern or otherwise. They just keep going however much you mistreat them, and never fail to put a smile on your face! The day they start to let me down I will move on...for a while

Do what you gotta do my friend, it goes with out saying you will come back to dubs if you do venture off, it just cant be helped! 8)

you dont sell them you buy more! thats why ive curently got 6 cars
my bus
new 77 bus
my cali 63 bug
missus 71 cali ragtop
missus 2dr mk1 escort (soon to be 2.1 powered!)
daily hack

i love all custom cars, hot rods and classic, vw scene can feel samey samey so its always best to look around, get new ideas, laugh at the max power boys
im a petrolhead not just a v-dubber ;)

A few weeks ago I felt the same - would have sold at the drop of a hat. Now, the sun is shining, the hassles are still there, but it all seems better as I'm using the bus. I think that's part of owning a classic. But there's a lot of us who feel the same about other classics. I buy practical classics as well as VW mags, and take the bus to general classic car shows - and I'd love a garage housing a beetle, Morris Minor, Mini, Rover P6, Triumph Dolomite, MGB, Morgan, Citreon DS, Light 15... I reckon about 20 should do. But keeping just one on the road is tough (and expensive) enough!!!

The only think I would say is that the scene that surrounds VWs is a huge added bonus (esp the folk on here) - not stuffy, but helpful and enthusiastic. There are others (like the Matra lot), but not all are the same.

Why not dabble while the bus is in dock? Buy something old and cheap (not a Mexico, but an Anglia, for example) - you won't lose money, and it might help you decide?

i find myself eyeingup loads of motors. there a guy near me with as 1972 alfa in dirty green that he uses daily through the summer. you know all the thing you here about old italian stuff but its just so right.

i used to do the ford thing with a few mates back in the day. but rs owners club days out dont even come near to a vw related event. obviously not been to any other marques shows for a while but get a decent dub show on a sunny day and im in heaven.

also have you ever tried kipping in and escort  . we all used to drive to skeg when we were younger get drunk and kip in the cars. then drive home in the morning with dodgy necks :D

Its not about the scene for me anymore. When you have kids your priorities change and its cheap holidays for me now. I'm sure my little one will really love the bus when its finished and she's old enough to understand. All the rest, the shows etc, are just a bonus. I just want to give her and the wife the same memories i had as a kid.

I know what you mean about it being samey samey though. Thats why i wanted to get involved in this site, when you see so many new projects i the galleries and what other folk are doing in the US etc its inspiring and certainly fresher (not as glossy) than the mags.

Good point! Forgot to say, have always been a petrol head, old fords being prominent. But, I was 20 (Yes, 25 years ago!!) when I really 'caught the bug' and had a fastback and a devon splitty then a few years down the line, moved into/onto bikes and did that for a while. Left the whole lot for a bit and now am right back in there! Point I'm trying to make is you can walk away, but just as easy walk back again if you want. It's not a one shot thing!
Whatever you do, it's 8)

Not sure that it would be that easy in reality. Prices of the vans going up every day.
For some (ie me) once your out, your out.
TBH im into Bays n Caddy's (Mk1's) so if i wanted to get back in i wouldnt be satisfied with a Bug or Ghia.
I wont be rushing to sell anyway and my moods and thoughts change like the weather.
If i ever do decide to sell, you lot will be the 1st to know, as for now, itl be staying with me 8)
