Anyone got the mesh head light protectors on their bay?

Got some off ebay but they didnt come with fitting instructions and being simple myself i've not a clue how they are fitted?

Dave

Dave: I've got a pair of 7" stone guards on my own bus as I was fed up replacing cracked lenses on a regular basis. I initially installed them as per the link below...

....but ended up doing a Heath Robinson installation to make them more flush with the lens :? .

There's a parallel discussion on the Samba at the moment......

These instructions are from a Mini forum and have some decent pics....

Good luck mate but I bet you'll be cursing at some point during the procedure

I fitted a set on my type 3 fasty and it was a pain to fit, lots of bending the clips and making them fit somehow.

Be warned but, if they are not stainless laquer them before fitting. Mine were brown within 6 months.

I gave up trying to install mine, but left the clips on...true enough they went brown!! Will have another go at some point with new clips.

You can get stainless steel ones Dave - a quick google came up with the following sources:

As I said before I ditched the metal clips in favour of a homemade solution. In the following pic you can just about see how I secured the stoneguards - there are a couple of small black plastic cable grips through which I've threaded the headlamp adjuster screws. The stoneguards sit more or less flush with the glass and don't rattle around like they did before with the metal clips. Make sure that the adjuster screws are screwed in the same distance as they were prior to the stoneguard fixing otherwise your lights will be misaligned.

Defo take time to make sure they are all stainless, inc clips. Otherwise the go rusty quick snap!

OK Dave, apparently the clips I used are called "P Clips". I bought them from a local chandlery shop and they're made of tough but pliable nylon. I'm sure any good electrical shop or ICE shop will stock a variety of sizes. I'm afraid I can't get a close up photo at the moment as I'm at work (in Africa!). Just make sure that the clip hole is of sufficient diameter to take the headlamp adjustment screw and as I said previously, before you start unscrewing the headlamp adjustment screw take a note of how far it's been screwed in and then when you reassemble the headlamp unit with the stoneguard in position then your headlight beam won't be misaligned. On the following ebay shop there are a few sizes but you probably need the 3.3mm diameter clip...

I've just noticed that my lead lamp adjuster screws are under the head light surround so i dont think that would work for mine!
