Can anyone tell me the torque figure for the head studs?

The studs into the case not the nuts onto the studs.

Haynes only states a figure for the nuts onto the studs that you tighten in a sequence with the head installed 7lb/ft initial then 18lb/ft for 8mm & 23lb/ft for 10mm studs.

Is there a figure stated or any info for that matter in a Bentley manual?

I've done a search on here but have found conflicting figures

Any info would be good, tightening these studs using the double nut method doesnt seem right as the thread on the stud bottoms out against the case.

Cheers
J

I'm sure the book I followed didn't mention a torque setting for the studs, the importance of not over tightening and using permatex on the threads to seal them can't to find my book so maybe in the garage will confirm 2mo. Ben

Cheers that would be great. The fact there's nothing in Haynes is annoying. When I removed them they were really tight but covered in some kind of clear silicon sealant. Does seem like a weak point oil leaks could develop

A little knowledge etc

Your confused.

Torque settings are what governs the compressive force between the two mating surfaces.

Studs are not torqued into the case.

The tightness on removal of old studs is due to age (and sealer if used).
