Heat exchanger or j tubes?

J-tubes basically connect the exhaust ports on the front of the engine to the exhaust. They are simple pieces of pipework.
Heat exchangers are a bit like a j-tube wearing a jacket :lol: Inside they basically have J-tubes for the same purpose but are surrounded by a metal shroud with fins which heat the air within. The heat exchangers have an extra input and output to allow air to be blown through them, heat up, and be sent on its merry way to your cab.

TL;DR: heat exchangers allow you to have heating, J-tubes don't.

How to tell? Look at the side of the engine at the rocker covers.
