It's more than likely been done to death, however I am unable to find a decent thread to assist with
removal and replacement?
Below is a picture of my duct but I think there is a piece that is missing on the left side of this duct
that allows you to attach the cable. However it does not feel like anything is broken off.

This is the one on the drivers side. RHD.
PO cut cables and nothing sticks out the ends of the cable carriers closest to the engine.
Any help appreciated people.

Evening mate, at the end of your cables you add a sort of stirrup and the cable end threads through a hole with a bolt to hold it in place.
They are available at most VW parts, can't seem to post a link so in VWH catalogue its called "cable connector kit 111-298-101/A".
Hopefully that's what your asking about, or the three pints has scrambled my brain

must get round to doing mine ;)

I had exactly the same problem at the same side, it seems you also have the wrong duct.
This duct is for a beetle and we need a bus duct.
See my pictures.

Lever at wrong side:

I took it off and changed it for the one at the bottom of the picture, with the lever at the good (RH) side:

And that one I could connect with the clamp that robins mentions (at a cable which is too long):

Thanks for the reply's everyone. Seems it is a bug one and I'm buggered if I'm going to take the engine out for that at this stage. Will have to make some thing work.

Engine out?? No need for that your only taking off the heat exchangers, unbolt from exhaust, either jack it up or remove rear valance

Well that's good to know. Thanks. Now to find one for that side, anybody?
