Hello. I've just signed up. It's nice to 'meet' all you people that love early bays :D

Some of you may have seen my posts elsewhere about finding my dads campervan. He had a 1972 red and white campervan HYY874K, that I would dearly love to find any other owners of. He looked after it very well until he died in 1979 and the van was sold. I know from the DVLA site that the van is still taxed and probably still red and white.

If you've seen it please please let me know!

Hi Wolfie girl 8) welcome to earlybay.

Will have a nose around for you 8)

Have you posted anything on VZI they may know of the owner? :D

have you tried contacting the dvla? or maybe a friendly copper?

I did apply for info from the DVLA but they wrote back and basically said "tough, we can't tell you because of privacy laws"

If only I did know a friendly copper

Welcome :)

I thought the reg. number looks familiar, but the one I know is HYV 34K.

I do know of a red and white '72 locally, so I'll check it out next time I see it. Don't hold your breath though 8)

If I find the van it will only happen through the help of people like you. So many thanks for keeping an eye open for it. It's out there somewhere... I keep wondering whether it's someones pride and joy or whether it's rotting sadly away :?

Could any of the lucky people going to RTTS this weekend please keep an eye open for my dads old van? Amongst all those type 2's look out for an early bay thats white over red with a pop-top. If the registration is HYY874K, it's the one!

Can anyone tell me what sort of number of vans attend RTTS?

Have you tried the the type2 owners club :?:

http://www.vwt2oc.org/page/dropdown.asp

Might get lucky there....

I now know that the van has had 13 keepers. That seems high to me. The current owner has had it for 5 years, so the average for the other owners (except my dad) is only 2 years.

Is my dads old van changing hands more than usual, or is this sort of owner turn-over normal :?

Is the 13 former keepers the result of an HPI check :?:
If so it should give you the last registered keeper, if not is it worth paying
the dollar for an HPI check. :?:
Also the DVLA will give out owner info. But you have to give them bloody good reason to do so. Think of a great story and sell it to em'.

I did get a vehicle check. I was very curious about the number of owners but somewhat disappointed to find that there had been so many. Having said that, I suppose it means there is more chance of an ex-keeper being on one of the VW forums.

I haven't found a vehicle check service that gives the current owners address, but if anyone knows of such a thing pleae tell me!

I am trying a different approach with the DVLA at the moment (I have contacted them before). You have to be honest with them though, there is a nasty fine if you're caught telling porkies.
