All my attempts at tracing the van have so far failed :(

But I am still trying, which is why I'm posting here again in the hope that some new members might be able to help :)

I got a fright when the van went untaxed for a while (according to the DVLA site) but its been renewed now which means the van is MOTed, taxed and out there somewhere.

There isn't a day goes past when I don't wonder where it is...

13 owners isn't that unusual for a camper, my last one had 12!

Have you tried asking the DVLA for the details of the previous keepers? I appreciate it may be difficult as you don't currently own it, but certainly if you are the current keeper you can obtain this information if you tell them you are researching the vehicle's history.

I've done this with vans I've owned in the past, you'd be suprised how many people do actually reply! If you were able to trace any previous owners it might lead you to the current owner....

good luck in your search....

carole

The DVLA wouldn't tell me anything. They wouldn't even pass a letter on my behalf to the current keeper.

It feels rather strange in this age of information to not be able to trace the owner of an old van. Of course I know why the DVLA won't give out the details, but it still feels not of this time that I can't make contact.

Yeah it's me again. Despite posting on several forums, I've still not had any useful info about the van.

I have trouble getting my head around the van having 13 owners and yet none of them (well maybe one - but it was all a bit vague) have made themselves known. I'm sure there must be someone from the vans past who is active on the forums but maybe hasn't seen my posts :?

I see the membership on earlyBay is up to almost 3300. Maybe admin would let me pay for this to become a sticky? Would you mind?

go on then - made it sticky for a while - i hope you can track it down ... Im surprised there isnt a process in place at DVLA for this kind of situation - they could even charge for passing on contact details !

There are believe it or not a lot of EB drivers out there who dont go to shows or ever go anywhere near a forum, just fancied an old VW camper for the summer or something. Classic car owners are always on the lookout or at least notice other classics so you might want to try some of the general classic magazines like Practical classics which have a Cars reunited section. There are also several cars reunited type web sites you can register with.
Good luck with your search, if its out there it can be found.

Thats very kind of you, thanks.

Yes, the DVLA could charge for passing on contact details, thats a good idea. There are so many people who want to trace a vehicle that's been part of their life, I'm sure it would be a good little earner for the government.

I think going more general in my search is a good idea. Practical Classics is now on my shopping list.

Anyone tried the car reunited websites? I found two. One didn't seem to have any campers on it  and the other wanted £5 before letting me really have a look at how good/bad it is.

It's the dreaded Data Protection Act I'm afraid...
We used to do it at the restaurant I worked at as people were always abandoning cars in the carpark - for a small fee (£2-3?) you could request the registered keepers details and then write to them...

;)

Don't give up. I tried for years to trace a Triumph Spitfire that a friend used to own. I tried all the Triumph owners clubs to no avail, but then I got to know someone who worked for an insurance company. They get access to current owners details and she located the car for me.

Unfortunately I am not in contact with her any more, but it does go to show that if it's out there it'll turn up eventually.

Hi wolfie i will get onto my mate who is a copper,he will put the number plate into the search engine at work and find it for you,he did this to my vw beetle which me and him went to rtts in 1991,i sold it it 93 he searched for it in 2003 and found it ws in Glasgow ansd was now pink...it was texas yellow....Rowan..

Hi wolfie,

Just spotted this info on Haveacamper's inspirational resto thread in the gallery. The form probably only allows the current owner to apply for the info. But it's gotta be worth a try. Good luck.

FYI: if you want to get previous owners' last known addresses then fill in a V888 form from DVLA and cheque for £5. as long as you dont intend to use the information (addresses) in a malicious way then they should give you the addresses

I did try this, but the DVLA sent the form & cheque back to me

I still don't have any idea where the van is and that is not looking likely to change. So before this thread sinks below the horizon, can I make a last plea for people to look out for the van when they go to shows and are on the road. If you can't remember the whole reg number, remember "HYY" and the "K" - I've never seen another van with these details - so if you see one - it's probably the one I want! And if someone sees the van, maybe they could let the driver know there's a desperate woman on the EarlyBay forum who's very keen to speak to him
