Help - indicator fuse keeps blowing - ideas?

Hi All

My indicator fuse keeps blowing, it's a 1969 westfalia and it's the 1st fuse in the array and it seems to be randomly blowing, the only correlation might be when the headlights are on and perhaps indicating left, anyone dealt with this?

remove the relay and carefully open it up if your lucky its cleanable....

then check your connections to lamps, likelyhood its water damage

I think the relay is ok because they work for a while, I just can't pinpoint what combination of things is causing the fuse to blow

Do the headlights go through the same fuse? What size fuse is in?

Unscrew the indicators off the van and check the connections are clean and good

How often is it happening?

The horn does,not sure about the headlights, it's a 16amp fuse, I'll have a look at the connections but even when the fuse had blown the emergency flashers work, I can find any specific event for it happening but it's every time I drive the van, not immediately but at some point.

Could it be something bouncing about under the dash and shorting out on the relay pins or similar?

Could be but I don't have a clue where to start, I had a look at the electrical diagram in the manual and got lost

I know on mine the relay isn't tied down in any way - it is just nestled in with all the wires so I can imagine it wouldn't take much to short out the pins - thankfully never happened on mine!

Just get your head under the dash and have a look - even some insulation tape on any bare connections/spades could help.

It will be a live touching an earth somewhere,as said your just gonna have to get your head in there and check it all out best you can and insulate anything that looks suspect.

Most likely that someone has connected the indicator live wire straight to earth, or it has the wrong bulb that is shorting. Check it's not a twin filament bulb in single holder.
