Help needed on tidying up bodywork

I am trying to do some body work on my 71 Devon Moonraker and need advice.The offside side panel is rotten near the bottom edge and I am thinking of cutting it out an putting in a repair panel any idea's on how to seperate the bottom edge from the floorpan without causing too much damage to the floorpan.
I am new to this so please keep it simple
