How do I remove a speedo needle?

I screwed up!
I was trying to clean the silver inner dial on a 72 speedo - slipped & messed the Matt silver paint finish up.

I now need to remove the inner disc To paint it - or replace it with another donor.

How the hell can I get the needle off to do this?

I. Tried holding the what's it & pulling the needle. Up clockwise to no avail.
Next stop is the fork treatment if there are no insights fro the forum.
Very low on confidence....

Also brought 2 cans of paint for the job but both COMPLETELY the wrong colour - does anyone know what the colour of the inner dial should be?

I would try a pair of teaspoons. Hook the spoon ends under the boss. One at 9 o'clock & one at 3 o'clock.
Press down on the end of the handles.
Maybe a little heat too. Hairdrier?

I used a fork last time i removed the needle as the spindle fitted between the prongs nicely.
