morning,

Off to buy a 2.0l gearbox today :D :D :D

It's been out of the bus for about a month, been told it was woking fine when fitted.

Before i part with the "green" any tips on how/can i check to condition of the box???

any advice would be great please

cheers

Check for play in the input shaft, other than that its had to tell if a box is ok when you cant run it up to speed.

true its a leap of faith unless you can load the drive shafts (diffs) and spin up the input..... general appearance, excessive play, to be honest bang it into a gearbox shop and get a refurb, walk away with peace of mind and a warranty....

done well finding one, if its under £300 its a bargain, they are sometimes very hard to find

mine done 2000 miles before it got stuck in 4th

now having a full rebuild at BEARS 8)

Cheers chaps. but i bought before i saw any of your replys.

Gary, can you give me any tips on fitting it??? i saw from your thread that i need to take of any 1" or so of the shaft??? is that it m8, and i also managed to get the starter for free ;) ;)

I know that cost a few £££, the chap also "may" have another and a 2.0l engine up for sale soon, if anyone would need either or both????

we took about an inch off the input shaft, measure ur 1600 one, and take the excess off.

then you will need to grind the end to bevel it so it goes in okay, you can swap the bellhousing over, but the seals dont line up well, and it would probably leak

did u get a good deal on it (pm me if u prefer) and how much for the other box hes selling??

well it was a lot under £300

If he sells the other box and engine he was looking for £350 for the both, but it's all the way down by Poole

5 hour round trip drive for me today :( :( hope it works ;)
