Only when I get to my destination?

Stopping to let the engine cool off serves no benefit to your van (or any other car) if it is set up as it should be. If it is overheating, then sort the cause of the problem :)

say you were stuck in traffic, not moving for a while would this make any diffrence?

cheers

That's when your engine would be running coolest, if all is set up as it should be.

Aircooled VW engines should run cooler at idle in traffic than at 55mph on the motorway.

Only reason for turning it off in traffic is for saving fuel if you've an especially long wait... :)

Aye the only reason I stop is for my own benifit n the law says its dangerous to make a brew on the move

Probably every 2 hours to stretch my legs. Neck and shoulders start to arch as well (stock seats).

I would suggest that if you are worried about it overheating you need to start doing some basic servicing .change oil check tappets etc
make sure that all your tinware is fitted correctly. I would also fit a temperature guage
