There are some cool retro heaters out there. Alan (Tim) from on here has got one i want!

when i see a real fire im poking it every 5 mins (cant resist  )

my missus would be of a nervous disposition and worry about a stray spark sending us up in flames 8)

Propex is the only way to go IMHO. Flick it on, set the thermostat and listen to the beachboys. Close your eyes, you COULD be in the Hawaii

Better than driving a VW in winter inside a sleeping bag which i have done in the past.

God only knows what the old bill would have made of it if pulled over !!

I drove my van to the petrol station when we were in France in just my speedos and a pair of flip flops and filled her up! Other end of the scale, and thinking about it, glad the Police didn't see me

If your considering one of these may I interest you in a fire suppression kit  only kidding no more please my fingers bleed and head hurts....

For a couple summers I had the dirty-terrible job of tree-planting in northern Canada. For anyone not familiar with this job, it involves going to the remotest part of the world where clearcut logging has occurred, and hand-planting thousands of little saplings-generally in the freezing cold.

Anyway, almost all of us had our own campervans, some VWs and plenty of Ford econolines etc. I saw PLENTY of wood burning stoves installed in these vans-which made sense as where we were there was no place to get gas bottles but an endless supply of free firewood. I never once witnessed or heard of any trouble with these stoves.

did you cut holes for your feet or something?

I've done this too. Winter in the Rocky Mountains. Driving a 74 Westy with winter boots on and a mummy bag pulled up to my arm pits. Pushing the pedals through the sleeping bag with no holes cut.

A mate used one of those gas tent heaters to keep the windscreen defrosted from the inside as we went.

If you get a german para sleeping bag they have a flip down foot muff and sleeves so you can drive quite safely and still scare the bejesus out of the local bobbies

In the winter, I just grin and bear it (2 thick coats, 2 pairs of socks, tracky bottoms
with lined walking trousers on, balclava and thick gloves. Oh and a scarfe.
Difficult to walk and also looking over your shoulder but you do stay
reasonably warm!!!!!! :D

The thought of those speedos...................... :?
