Ok i have a 1971 dormobile and im not sure of all the differences from later models....

....I need a new steering wheel as half of mine is missing, its still useable but when shes done up i want a new/good second hand one sooooo do i need to get one specifically for an early bay and any ideas where to get one from?

.....Also my indicators dont stay on by themselves, im wondering if somethings worn out on the inside that could be replaced or do i need to get a new switch or new whole thing and where to get it?

would be grateful of any help/advice thank you in advance x

Good OE steering wheels are rare! - have been looking for one myself for over a year. There are quite a few different fittings with varying number of splines. Mine is a '71 (April) and part no is 211 415 651 D, which i have been advised is one of the hardest to find. You could maybe try Karmann Konnection but I would imagine that if they do have one it will be £££s.

It is pretty easy to restore a chipped wheel - you can get resto kits somewhere, cant quite remember where, may have been Frost?

Good Luck

Pre 72 wheel I believe (deffo an early specific), regarding the indicators best bet is to strip it and have a look....

If memory serves theres a tiny spring loaded rocker/latch that holds it in place so be careful when opening it up it may be just dis-lodged and require a good clean or the grease in there may just have gummed it all up with 40 years of dust and crap...

Blimey that was quick thank you both....

kinda guessed it might be the situation with the steering wheel, i know the flat 4 late bay ones are £189ish...also not quite the kind of size and style wheel thats about in anything modern to adapt from.

Was hoping i might be able to dismantle the indicator.....will def have a look now i know it might just be mank in it....but will do it very carefully :D

thanks again x

It is Frost that do the steering wheel repair kit.

Never used it myself but looks expensive.

Oooh is a tad expensive......although not sure i would be able to fix mine with it.

I havent pulled all the tape off but i know that almost half of the plastic is missing from the outside of the center bit if you get what i mean!

Its a basic epoxy filler so nothing special should be a doddle fella no matter whats missing, time and hard work to get the detail sorted...

Halfords sell this epoxy putty...

There's no reason you can't use regular paint after this.

Have a look here.... http://www.justkampers.co.uk/interactive/kamperchat/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1515&highlight=steering+wheel
