I have a old ipod classic early generation 80 gig that recently had a sad smiley face on the display, so i guess it's kapput, just clicks when you start it, still have it kicking about somewhere..
Anyway, bought a 2nd hand ipod, a newer thinner model, but only 40 gig IIRC, so used itunes and have reduced the file size a bit, all at 128k instead of 256k, i can still fit all my albums on the smaller ipod than my old dead 80 gig.
I also bought a new head unit, a Sony which does not have a cd drive, in it's place it has a trya where you place a ipod, which has a small cable which is internal with the tray, the head unit has all the functions of the ipod, and the try just slides nicely into the head unit, and the drop down front just pushes back up so it's all hidden away, a nice set up, also has aux in function so you could connect something else.

Sits in the glovebox hidden away, with a og stereo in place in the dash, and a 8 track with matching speakers on the bamboo shelf's! Think it was on another sale, didnt pay that much, think it was 89.99....
My ipod sits mainly at home in a small speaker pod in baby Isla room, i run it at night with lullaby renditions of classic albums, Eagles, U2, Nivarna, REM, Radiohead etc, seems little one quiet at bedtime!
A separate sub and amp is a good idea, you could use a suitcase or cooler and have quite a cool setup, i was thinking along this route, but i have used some 6x9 boxes, i can always move these to outside if needed......
........Hence i have a amp set up for sale..... :msn4:
Going back to the high bit rate/quality mp3's, it's all a lossy format to some extent, and i doubt a high end file would be that noticeable in qa bus with all the wind noise etc, probably better in a modern quiet car, or if you had a nice set up at home?
Cheers,
Alistair
