I'm sure this has been covered before but couldn't find it in the search, too many randoms.

I will soon be removing the living room speakers from my van and replacing them with some propper car stereo speakers. I do like a good sound but have become confused with the many many options available on the internet and need some advice. I am running a sony head unit with no amp, although this may change one day. The plan is to have some speakers in the door and some under the bed, any recommendations on size and make? What do people have in their vans? Not too keen on the ones with lots of bright green or space age plastic moulding.

Cheers!

ive got 6.5" mids and 1" tweets in the kick panels, 6x9 in the rear shelf (hidden), and a 12" sub and amp under the buddy seat. CD MP3 in the glove box.

also got a 12" tablet LCD/DVD flip down under the rear shelf too, runs on 12v

There seem to be a few people going for the speakers in the kick panel. What's the sound like with them so low?

Worked great for me too on my first bus, and I will be doing the same on my bus.....when funds allow.

I fitted a set of 6x9's to Windsurfer's bus in the kicks too, they sound good and look sweet.

Here's a pic of my first install 5 years ago:

Ice ice baby!

I have two sets of separates, one set in the back and one in the front. I then have two 8" subs in the back along with two amps under the RR bed, one amp for the subs and one for all the speakers. if you want ooomph you need ampage!....and a decent leisure battery

In the front i have the main 6" unit in the door and then the mid and the tweeter stacked on top of each other which is mounted in the kick panel. If you can, i would put the speakers in the kick panel. The main reason is water will inevitably get in behind the door card and it's a pain in the arse keeping em dry. I went to B&Q in the end and got a clear plastic ground sheet that i cut to the shape of the door cards then glued them on to try and prevent water damage.

All the kit is from a company called VIBE audio which i cant fault, the instructions and help were great and the quality superb.

Also have the kenwood flip up screen up front which plays DVD's etc. here are some pics.

I hid all wires under the floor and behind buddy seat, plenty of dynamat down too to stop vibration:

much food for thought - I'm liking your kickboard, where did you get it from?

mad mats, although they dont do that specific colour anymore.

Running a Fusion head unit in mine, 2 fusion 6x9s, 2 infinity 13cms and a jbl bass tube.
I had an Alpine headunit in my old bug and have always liked their stuff. Infinity speakers are always good but come at a price. Vibe stuff is good but they have an entry level brand called Fli, unless your a really stereo geek the gear is pretty much the same and still sounds good but at a much lower cost.
I did all my sound proofing with Flashband and Thermawrap from B&Q (works pretty much the same as dynamat just a lot lower cost!)
With the door speakers I cut holes in the door cards but not the material. Don't really like to see modern speakers showing in a bus, but thats just a me thing I think!

Hi!

Any pics of the 6x9 in the kick panels? Would love to do this to mine as my 6x9's are in boxes, on for Linda to stick her feet on, and the other behind my drivers seat - but can't really hear it well..............

Cheers!

The Fli range is a great entry level speaker set up but i have to disagree with the fact the higher spec kit sounds the same. The new 'space' range is awesome and if you look at the size of the new amps they are making called the 'lite box' range they are ridiculously small but pack a huge punch. I managed to fit two under the bed as they are half the size of most competitor amps.

The infinity range is ok, i have a set of 6x9's in my truck but if i had the funds for more space kit i would swap em in a heartbeat. 8)
