Is the JK cover any good?

Need to get something good for the winter with the lack of a garage :(

Yes, brilliant. As long as you take it off when you run the engine you won't melt it
Haven't had a problem with condensation, it says in the instructions to vent the van once a month. I left the cab windows open slightly as well.

Apparently the mutts are Protec covers but when I got a quote back from them for £360 I decided £100 was a much better option!! Not had any regrets - obv make sure your bus is clean before you put the cover on, you don't want dirt grinding against your paint! You can also get moisture traps from JK http://shop.justkampers.com/product_info.php/cPath/5_4066_4407/products_id/10237" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for £6 which you could leave in your bus and I have seen bean bag type moisture sacks that are reusable after drying out on a radiator but can't remember where I saw these :?

Yep, a good bit of kit.

I checked my bus yesterday during the pouring rain, and it was bone dry, bar perhaps just one or two drips here and there. I've not had any problems with condensation, but as Sparkywig mentions with his, I unwind a window slightly. On dry days I take the cover off again. :D

The moisture bags can be bought from most caravan shops. The bean bag one we have can be microwaved for 5 minutes to re-set it. It has little water drop pictures on the outside when they change colour it's time to zap it.

If you were to take a look at my paintwork you'd steer clear of a JK cover. I actually now avoid JK at all costs!

I complained and they tried to point the finger at my guy who sprayed the front - cheek!

The cover undoubtedly to my mind caused a blistering of the paint - I have read on similar threads that I am not the only one to say this. If you need a cover spend and get the best.

To add my thoughts... I did invest in a slightly cheaper version of the JK cover from eBay but it was a) too short as I had a Dormobile roof, b) the material whilst similar to that of the JK didn't appear to eliminate moisture and the level of heat absorbed by the van gave me some concerns. Now to be totally clear this wasnt a JK but a close replica. Given I have spent a shed load on the van and keep spending... I wanted to protect my investment and future fun so bit the bullet and bought a Protec cover. This is the best cover money can buy and it is fantastic. It was made to measure and was desgined to fit not just over the dormobile roof but they also took into account my roof rack so I never need to remove it. The build quality is exceptional and when on is strapped all around for total security. There ain't no rain getting in even in a force 10 gale! Might have cost £300'ish but much less than having to shell out on some new panels or paint job. Which reminds the inside of the cover is a bit like fine felt. Definitely will not scratch and the thickness will protect from heat as well. Hope this helps.

I had no issues with the paint on my previous bay (og paint), although it wasn't covered for a very long period, but I guess with the covers, like anything, its a case of you pays your money. The JK cover on my current van serves mainly to keep the crap off (literally) and to keep the frost out, most of the rain out, UV protection. The paintwork is probably best described as past its sell by date anyway!

i had a JK cover on my 74 Devon.Worked well the 1st winter. The next winter i think it stored water  . Good if you dont mind paying a 100 quid a year on covers :?:

Every time I see the question of JK covers come up on the forums, I am amazed that there are so many positive replies.

We bought two covers a few years back and were immediately unimpressed.

I originally complained that they were letting in water, and got one replaced by JK, but soon found out that they all seemed the same.

As 'one size fits all' there seems to be surplus material that the wind gets beneath and its blows about like a barrage balloon. (I think they have addressed this problem now with more straps on the later models)

We are still using them however one as a dust cover in a garage, and the other keeping tarpaulin in place over the van.

I will admit they are put on and taken off quite regularly, but they are ripped and the material is now very thin and in the silver 'waterproof' layer has been worn off in creases on edges etc.

I will concede, that maybe they have found a better supplier for the later covers, but I think if I was in the market for a new cover, I would go down the Protec route.

Buy cheap buy twice - not that nearly £100 is cheap

I haven't had my current cover long enough yet to comment on the longevity of them. I gave my last cover away with my late bay when I sold it, not thinking I'd be getting another bay quite as soon as I did!
I hope to find a garage soon, so for my purposes the JK cover is adequate.

Thanks for all the useful posts guys, im thinking I will leave the cover for now unless I find a cheapo argos one for the winter

With respect I'd have thought the concluion from all this is to avoid the cheap ones? Your call but one look at the front of my van would persuade you!

Im in my second year with a JK cover,,, it dosnt stop the rain, just slows it down, mines the two strap version , it stays on but does balloon a bit in high wind. I dont think they are supposed to stop the rain or they would then sweat and that would be a problem in itself
