Sorry to be the bringer of doom and gloom but I just don't want it to happen to anyone else.
We went to the vw festival at Harewood house last weekend, after a downpour on saturday night our drive away was still soaked on sunday morning, so we packed most of our stuff into the van but left the driveaway up to dry in the morning sun while we took our van up to our club stand. A couple of hours later i walked back down to the campsite to pack it up only to find some thieving scum bag had stolen the lot! I realise i will never see it or any of its contents again but just feel pretty pi~#ed off about it really and pretty helpless to do anything about it, the only thing is we had a bag made for the awning at a local shop with their name on. so if you are offered or see anyone with an awning in a green old fashioned canvas bag with a white label on with "Woodall and sons, malton" embroidered on a white label on it you know its stolen.

Like I say I don't really expect to get it back but just feel like some scumbag has got away with my stuff after stealing it in broad day light along with the contents and i am helpless to do anything about it.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr.

So maybe think twice about leaving yours set up as you never know who is out there watching your stuff.

Twats
It's low life like that who spoil it for everyone else
Hope it doesn't put you off going to other events dude

Mark

We think it won't happen in the vw community but there are low life everywhere. Your probably right you won't see it again but let's hope. If the thieving **** is on this website and he or she could be then I hope you get caught and end up in nick.

Utter fuckers, happening more and more at VW shows

Just a thought, but I don't suppose that the organisers might have thought that it had been abandoned, by any chance?

I know that this is unlikely, but the practice at many festivals is to just ditch the tent and go.

Either way, you ain't gonna see it again, so little consolation.

I thought that or that it had maybe blown away as it was quite windy, but there was some nice vintage blankets inside and a morrisons bag of washing up, and the bag was left out on the grass, all pegs etc removed, so they obviously didn't feel the need to steal that and left it as a good will gesture. F$%^ing W"£$ers.

I always leave our awning up with our stuff in if the bus is in the show n shine!!
Would never think of some **** pinching it!!!

Unless they thought it was abandoned?? :? Unlikely I know!

Who were you camped next to??

What vans did they have?

Got any pics?

Blimey - terrible to hear especially as we were at the show too!

Where were you set up was it general camping?

Do you have a pic of the awning that was taken for reference?

What a tw@t ! Sorry to this happened Ash. I have to say, Ive been to this show a good few times and its been great to watch it grow but I guess the law of averages says the more people who attend the more nob heads you'll get too.

We just went down on the Saturday but when we'd got ourselves set up our neighbours next door returned and introduced himself with 'Are you going to shift this ******* car away from our tent you daft ****'. I was over the moon to inform them it wasn't our car...... but then I was on edge when we left camp to see if id get back to a windbreak speared through the window. luckily nothing happened and everyone else we met were really friendly and overall had a great weekend.

One thing I did notice though, when we left at 3 on the Sunday they were loads of tents, awnings and gazebos still pitched with no campers or cars anywhere near them and I did think to myself they cant be all in show and shine and the likes. Im surprised it doesn't happen more.

Sorry I Didn`t reply earlier, I just did not know what to say, still don`t. This is happening more and more and may be another very good thing about mass or club camping as there is usually someone around too-ing and fro-ing from within the gang to discourage a lot of this type of stuff. Try not to dwell on it, and I know that`s easier said than done, but they have allready pissed on your fireworks, try your hardest to not let them piss on your parade as you get through it. The Early Bays and VW`s in general still bring a lot more highs than lows.

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,,, Stay cool

Thanks for the replies guys, we were just in general camping, there was a small group of us and some nice folks either side of us. I guess it's just one of those things and I'll have to stomach it and crack on!
I'd like to lay my hands on the twats never the less. I'll try and find a picture too.

Shocking fella. Low life scum!!. ...totally not in the spirit of VAG shows! Karma x 10 to those who are guilty of such a selfish act!!

Own a Bay?.......Feel the Love!!

Thought the rules of camping were that nothing ever got stolen from your tent. never thought of anyone stealing the tent!

Really what is wrong with people :?:

The person that done this to you is scum.

Woz

I just can't get over the cheek of it! What would they have done if you'd have come back.

I know I'm generalising here (and will no doubt come under fire) but my wife and I steer clear of groups of T4 owners and try to find a huddle of Early Bays at shows. Obviously not everyone but you do tend to get different owners buying different vans and Early Bayers do seem to be decent people that look out for each other on the whole. We've experienced a growing different crowd at shows and for that reason have pretty much stopped going. Shame some spoil it for others.

Anyway, best regards

Mike

Ash, thats so harsh!
Shocking

So this is happening now

The next awning you buy fella have your
Reg in big lettering printed on to it!

Maybe that could be a club buy project

I'm new to this site but generally not to the Classic Car Scene. This is so sickening to read. People spend a lot of hard EARNED cash and personal time on their motor. I know low life scum bags are in every walk of life, therefore WE as attendees need to up the game and keep any eye out as best we can for our nearby collegues property - kind of an informal neighbourhood watch. I even thought it would be an idea to put a portable shed alarm in the Awning but don't know if on a windy day the movement of the sides would set it off. Also, wouldn't like to hear a neighbours going off in the early hours as they staggered squiffy into their tent. Good idea on this thread about marking the Awning with Van nimber plate or something. What a drag though.

Sorry to hear about that, scumbags.
I enjoy going to VW shows for the day but would never camp, just not my thing and I've noticed over the last three years, more and more idiots seem to go to these shows.
And I don't mean to generalise either, but a group of lads in Golfs/Polos and T4's don't fill me with confidence - and this is coming from a 21 year old with a shaved head.
