Hi everyone, my bus has no rust on it what so ever, but it does have some light patina on it as it wears it first paint still, a few areas have the paint completely worn off showing the metal behind. i really dont want this to turn to rot, but do want to be able to see it still, if you get me?

so what to people put on the patina to stop it turning rusty UK style? i have heard a few things like some kind of anchor wax?? and some other product call corralite?? or some thing like that, and i have heard people spraying clear laquer on it.

I dont really know what is best, but i'd like to know to protect my bus and my newly aquired beetle.

any help would be bad ass.

cheers

Austin

ps my bus is in "camper and bus" this month second to the right of the green commer in the brighton breeze write up.
(the above statement has no relevance to the question, but have just realised i havent told anyone of my new found fame!!)

Hi Austin,

Have a look at my thread http://forum.earlybay.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=26769" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Clem on here has just finished cavity waxing & protecting my van..

^^ nice thread, and lovely bus. where do you get the anchor wax from? can you put it on like megs wax for example? or is it a bit sloppier than that? does it go hard afterwards?

who knows about anchor wax and that corrdite stuff and its application?

cheers

My bus is original paint and was in the same boat as you cos wanted to keep it protected. I did a lot of reading up on Ankor Wax, did a small test area and then went for it and did the entire van. If you are planning a respray sometime soon it might not be the best thing cos you would have to get it all off again[can be done with white spirits apparently]. I put it on with a brush onto a clean van and let it set and then started working my way round the van buffing it off. Takes fooking ages to buff it up proper [I have still got half the roof to do!] but have a feeling i put it on too thick. If you went for it you could do it in a day and half i would say but its a real ballbreaker!
Anyway its come up nice, the small bits of surface rust have darkened a touch bit the paint hasnt. The rain really beads of it well and should only need doing maybe once a year at most. You can get it from Just Kampers, they do the big containers and to give you an idea i have used nearly half of it and have done all the outside and roof of van, inside of doors and panels and the floors etc.
Do a google search and you will find lots of threads on Ankor wax on Vzi and SSVC etc Some people use it but some people wouldnt touch it!
From my experience would say its fine as long as you not having any paint done soon and i feel happier knowing the van has it on there and that its a medium to long term protection.

Ankor Wax is great on bare metal or light surface rust, rub it on and buff off when dry. For the rest of your paint just use the best car wax you can afford.
I do all cavaties and undersides in Ankor Wax also as its so much easier to work with than Waxoyl.

You can order it direct from the Morris website, its about £35 a can now, plus delivery, but thats free with a minimum order of a certain amount.
