Bugger! Pretty sure I just lost my last set of keys. Luckily (?) the van is still open.

Whats the best way to get an ignition key cut? Is there some numbering anywhere on the barrel??

By the way you've worded this I assume your ignition key does not match your doors? Perhaps it's time you changed that

I'd get a key cut to match the doors (see https://forum.earlybay.com/viewtopic.php?p=531846#p531846 for an example of where to find the code on a door handle)

Then remove the ignition barrel (see https://web.archive.org/web/20190429082132/http://www.specialpatrolgroup.co.uk/spooky/barrel/barrel.html for detailed instructions).

Finally, once you have your new door key, you can change the ignition barrel to match (see https://forum.earlybay.com/viewtopic.php?p=297569#p297569 for an example). Note that you might need some more/different wafers in order to get everything to work correctly.

Fiddly job, but definitely worth it!

Hi, Made some progress with eth igition barrel tomight. Its out of the van in its housing but doesn;t look quite lik e the one described in the 'Spooky' pages which i believe is earlier.

To release the barrel it looks like you shove a rod ( I used an old bicycle spoke) down an easily accessible hole normally blanked off with a mushroom headed pin. However its's still not dropping out. Do I also have to remove the peened on 'hatch' on the barrel holder? I have tried but it's not so easy..

Ok - its out.. spoke in the blanked out hole was the trick then a hooked pick in place of the key (cos I have none) to jiggle out the barrel. No need to remove the 'hatch' on this model it seems. In retrospect could probably have done it in situ. pretty sure the grub screw could have been left in too. In summary the Spooky pages don't apply to my 1970 model!
