Left or right hand drive

I have an imported van from the states undergoing resto. The guy has offered to convert to right hand drive for me if I want (have the dashboard and steering box my old van). Would it be difficult to do and would you do it? I'm in two minds. It'll be easier and safer to drive if it was converted, however I don't want to change the originality.

Never, there's a bit more to it than a box and dash swap...

Agree with Aaron, we've been asked to do it and there's a lot of work involved

- chassis rails
- pedals
- steering
- Dashboard
- wiring harness

You are looking at at least £2k by the time it's done

Also without upsetting the RHD drivers, the controls fall more naturally to hand on a LHD bus

My opinion is keep it OG, driving a LHD bus is easy, once you have driven it a few times it will feel natural.
Save your £'s or spend them on enjoying your bus 8)

LHD way cooler than a right hooker straight to the kerb, done.
It aint like you overtaking much.

If its a panel then its slightly different but still doable

I've been lucky to have owned lhd and rhd, and I wouldn't go back to rhd.

I thought about this before getting the LHD. After driving once or twice it felt natural and now RHD feels weird :lol:

If your ever lucky enough to bump into Slammed Kustom on here, a super skilled metal Smith and see his awesome bus and speak to him about doing a proper conversion, he'd never do it again.

Whats worse he had a look at a lot of conversions performed by so called specialists that fall well short of the mark.

The shit that goes into doing it right is unbelievable when you start listing all the items that need reworking, replacing and manufacturing, it's no wonder garages take short cuts since the cost would be prohibitive, you need to remember that you still want to be able to maintain the bus with off the shelf consumables, which would be difficult if the controls aren't well thought out.
