the van has been left standing over the christmas period, i now have problems starting its strange as it was running fine before. It turns over but just won't catch!! its a 1.6 twin port any ideas... :(

Petrol or points I would guess.

Clean & gap the points & make sure there is a spark. Tip a cap full of petrol down the carb, it should fire then.

You should have been driving it......
Matt (from sunny Fort Wayne)

main line the carb/s just pore some fuel into the carb venturie just a splash, once its fired up it should run.

As said clean and re-gap the points, clean and re-gap the spark plugs, check for a spark. If all ok then its got to be fuel.
Remove the fuel line from the pump, the petrol is gravity feed to this point so if you have fuel here then you can rule out that part of the line (when mine was left standing i had a blockage on this pipe, i just blew back up the pipe BUT remember to quickly let go or you get a mouthful of petrol  ),reconnect this pipe, remove the pipe going to the carb (from the carb), and remove the pump ,slowly press the pump by hand to see if you have fuel being fed upto the carb (or get someone to turn the engine over for you), refit if all ok.
After this your looking at something in the carb, sorry cant help with that :?
