Fuel filter....?

Have you taken carb off and cleaned it out , and is fuel filter clean ?

^^^^ WHS

Had same on mine, manky filter had caused muck to get into the carb, wouldn't run right, cleaned carb out twice and new filter and was fine, though right after changed to 34 ICT's, i just wanted it running right to make sure wasn't any other problems before fitting the ICT's, as i had had the dizzy off also.

If you have had the pump and rod renewed, the rods are different length between alt and gen, make sure yours is the right lenght, it's also possible that maybe the pipes could be on the wrong way on the fuel pump.

But as Grazy said, change fuel filter, and renew the rubber hose if you havent done already, fit the filter out of the engine bay, mine is underneath, and take the carb apart and clean.

Good luck!

up today at 7am
and under bus
why ho why did i not take your advice
done it all now.... carb off for 2nd time and cleaned
points... timing...plugs...valves all re done
and still ticks over nice/starts nice but as soon as your rev it
sounds like s..t
bet its a blocked and manky filter
will get one tomorrow

Hi, just noticed a post stating fit the filter out of the engine bay. Why would that be? Mine is a plastic one in the engine bay

Cheers

a crap fuel filter can burst or leak and cause an engine fire. some people say that's bollocks, but nobody ever died being too careful, as they say. next to the gearbox is your safest bet.

As an exmple, just read an article in issue 3(?) of Hayburner last night (about the guy who own's the Bus which he sells coffee from - can't remember the name of it at mo) in which the fuel filter caused an engine fire.

Think it took around 3 or 4 guys with fire extinguishers just to put it out.

I had a filter crack and leak fuel.. Luckily I had taken this good advice and located mine under the fuel tank....

update
filter was the trouble full of muck new one now fitted and have now got some more fuel line to move it out of engine bay
happy days once more

If the scrap was a tar like substance you may need to check the fuel line this stuff sticks like **** to a blanket. Had a similar prob with mine ended replacing the fuel line, pump, carb and had to take the engine out and refurb the tank. As for the fuel filter get it out of the engine bay even the Glass filters have been known to break just ask Doris on the site and don't use the cotton braided fuel line it masks a split hose, Lobbie on here had a Fire something to do with fuel line I think
