Evening,

Just picked up a 1972 T2 and enjoyed the relaxing 2.5hr journey home with no problems :)

My first challenge is to sort the door locks and ignition barrel. The ignition barrel has been removed and replaced with a switch and push button starter - I want to re-install the original ignition barrel. Additional the door locks are all miss-matched and the sliding door has no lock barrel.

Can anyone confirm if there are any options to get a complete lock barrel & ignition barrel set that are matched? Or if not then individual parts?

Then there is the horn, its currently on a flick switch - can you still get the push horn mechanism?

Thanks for any help
Gareth

All the major suppliers will do matched locks JK, Heritage etc. If you don't or can't get the original push horn to work you can buy push buttons off eaby or from Halfords as i remember. I got my push button from a local garage.

Thanks!

I really want to try and get the Horn working in the middle of the steering wheel, but at the moment I only have two wires sticking out...! I am guessing the horn push mechanism is impossible to get hold of??

I will call JK at lunch to get some prices for locks!

Hi there, the horn bits are available from time to time in the parts for sale section and with most things on these busses, an original is maybe ten times better than a reproduction one. I think it would be worth your while , if you put a wanted advert in there. The horn on these works a bit different to how you would expect in the fact that the horn is permanently powered and it's the earth that is switched also there is an earthing wire further down the column. There is loads on here about this if you tickle the search function.

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,, Here comes summer!!

Good plan, I will do that now!

I have used the search option a couple of times, but not found any positive results yet in terms of links to sellers etc.

With the lock sets you are best off contacting A H Schofields:

They can sort out a set of locks all on one key for you.

They sorted out mine recently!

i had my original horn working but after stripping the bus and assembling and 5 years worth of it sat doing nothing it gave up the ghost. three of us tried to attach the cable beneath the column and above the box but it would sit for a while and then fall off. lost patience with it in the end and put one on the dash. I may try again when i can be bothered. Good luck with it its fiddly but as they say perceiver adapt and overcome, or in my case lose your rag kick stuff and fit an after market one.

Thanks Alex, will give them a call now.

Jinx - you could always sell me your old horn mechanism if you like ;)
