I am having my transmission rebuilt and my buy has it cracked and it wanting to know what gearing i want. I just want a longer 4th gear. I have a stock 1970 bus transmission. Looked at a book and it looks like my 4th is .082. I see a lot of people doing .077 and some .089? I have done a done of research!!!! I have a brand new 1914cc and am going to run 15 bus rims with something like a 185/65/15.

Can anyone help? I have to let him know.....

Thanx,

Mcky

Change the ring and pinion to 4.57 and be done with it, unless you have very tall tyres (around 25 inches should be fine with this). You could also drop the 4th to .77 with the R&P swap.

Thats what i did. Just came in the mail yesterday. I am running 195/65/15 on 15 inch bus wheels. I just want to cruise at 65 with ease.

Not a problem so long as you have some power to move it. The stock 1600 was just about OK in a bug, never a heavy bus.
