As title really, my vans all stripped down and back to a rolling chassis. Theres just a touch of welding to be done as it will be ready to hand over to the paint shop...

Problem is who to trust? some good friends of mine have just been ripped off with their van at a bodyshop for nearly £5000 and they have made an utter mess of it.

Im not the most trustworthy when it comes to letting anyone do anything on my van, so thought i'd see if anyone has any recomendations.

Its not looking for a concours show winner but as close to it as possible

I look stunning in spandex mark

Ooops I didn't see the shop after body sorry

Good man, I'll call in and check them out..

Bonus too is there only about 15 mins away!! so I could pester them everyday if they take it on 8)

You could also check out Street Style Body Shop in Belmont, near Bolton.

Steve Kay has done some great VW's in the past - Google him as I don't have more details than that.

"Great" meaning multi-award winning.

But don't let him know that I've been bigging him up.

Cheers guys,

I'll check it out next week when I'm off, i'm going to go and visit them to see them, there work and workshops. Much better than just sending an enquiry email.

i had midland paintwerks do my bus, well chuffed with the final result, they get very busy so you might not get in this year or anytime soon.

+1 for this. They did our bus as well and I couldn't ask for more from them. They do an amazing job and keep you well informed through the process. Definitely worth talking to although they do tend to have a waiting list.

I had heard theres a two year waiting list at midland  Which proves the quality and I would be very suspicious if a company says "sure we'll start tomorrow" but I cant wait that long

Waiting list size doesn't mean anything. Seen workshops who have massive waiting lists, it was down to poor project management rather than outstanding work.

I must say thats a way of thinking about it that I hadnt considered,

People get blinkered by shiny paint and magazine/forum hype.

Being in the trade I tend to look a little deeper. Shiny paint means nothing. What people might see as minor mistakes suggest lack of thought/attention to detail or are signs of something being rushed. (whilst people stand around cooing over paint finish at shows me and steve go panel gap spotting  )

A good quality paint job cannot be judged as soon as its done. A proper job will last years, a poor job will look great for 6 months and then rapidly deteriorate.

Steve Nolan @ WolfsburgVW based in Chorley , did a hell of a lot of work on my split westy and has been around for years top quality work & a top fella ;)

Out of interest how much am looking at to have a bay painted and also how long? bearing in mind that's its a bare rolling shell.. I'm hoping 2-3 grand and 4-6 weeks.

For those that don't know my van the build thread is here,

Thanks dude, I'll make some enquiries.

I'm going to have a look at a place next week, price is up there but their work looks amazing. Mines going as a bare rolling shell so fingers crossed it won't take long to do.

How far's your off paint?
