Give midland a call. There's a fair bit of hype around waiting lists...

I have decided to get them to do my bus. Not the cheapest but you get whatbyou pay for.

Btw. You wont speak to a more enthusiastic helpful bunch.

Cheers, this is a bit of an old post really. I've been in contact with Midland and totally agree with what your saying right down to "you get what you pay for"

As I think I already mentioned above I'd like midland to paint it, sadly though there name says it all and there not in the NW so it's just not a viable option.

As I mentioned before they did our van and we aren;t local either (2-2.5 hour drive) I went over a few times to see things first hand but there really wasn't a need. I got regular pics of the progress and could call or email any time to get updates and info. I could of gone without visiting at all really but it was good to have a chat in person and just see first hand what they are doing

Midland Paintwerks did some work on my brothers bug, he lives over a hundred from them. Attention to detail is superb. The waiting list they have will be down to the reputation they have.

Widnes to Stone, Staffs, is about 55 miles by my reckoning, or an hour on the M62/M6. I suspect that there won't be much of a choice within a 50 mile radius of Widnes, and these guys seem to have a blistering reputation on here. Its your money of course, but to some this might look like a no brainer.

It would not hurt to call in on them and get a feel for them and their set up. Being comfortable with those who you trust to work on your bus is crucial IMHO, and travelling the extra few miles for piece of mind and a great end result might make sense in the long run.

Wow!

I have a hard time trusting anyone with my car/van or anything really which is why I'd do it myself before going to anyone BUT even I know paint needs to be done professionally if you want a show finish.

Ok, one thing I didn't mention is that the van is mostly in bare metal, I also want to be able to check in regularly on the van (good idea or not we'll see) which with work I'll struggle if it was at midland.

I have said over a and over my opinions of midland, there work speaks for itself and is first class but its unfair to say no one within a radius of me couldn't match their workmanship. I guess only time will tell.

I'm still not 100% decided (still got to visit their workshops) but the company I've had a quote from have built show winning and front cover mag cars. They have been mentioned here.

It's half the cost, half the distance so it works for me and my van. I've also got a 68 that wants paint next year, so who knows that might end up at Midland :)

Worst thing is I'm doubting the colour choice and scheme again so I've got that head ache to go through.

Sounds like a winning combination, Mark. :D

Just clear coat it and use as is problem solved cos when it's nice and shiny you won't want to leave it anywhere in case you get a scratch
I've found the scabs keep the vandals at bay

Mark (watching my bus rot away from under my arse but I love it. ... For now)

As I mentioned before http://www.streetstylebodyshop.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; is closer to you than midland surely?

Having seen Steve's work, and seen Midland's work, and being a qualified MIG, TIG Welder and Panel Beater, and working in a paint and bodyshop (and even showing the painters I work with that us panel beaters can spray when we want to ;) ), and having served my apprenticship restoring classic volkswagens I'd take it to street style every time.

Give that man a cigar.. Nothing's set in stone yet but everything Steve said was exactly what I wanted to hear.

Still time to listen to other leads though, Dale I'll be looking into your recommendation too cause I know your a picky b@stard like me :)

Also, please don't let this become a slagging match.. :)

Oh and that's the plan for the 68 ;) even leaving the cut arches and fat wheels 8)

Thanks dude, I'll make some enquiries.

I'm going to have a look at a place next week, price is up there but their work looks amazing. Mines going as a bare rolling shell so fingers crossed it won't take long to do.

How far's your off paint?

F*cking miles away  , ive not touched it for ages, been mad busy working 7 days since august, i'll see if i can find any pics of his 911's
