Hi Kempy , it's Juan in San Diego.
Have you tried this site for automatic decoding M code plates

http://www.alltheprettybuses.com/_d_decoder.asp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Cheers.

Wow, was of the belief that production didn't start untill July '67 yet this apparently was built some 4 months earlier!!!! I know parts were made before July, as the front doors on my bus are date stamped 4/67 and 5/67. Not meaning to doubt anyone, but can someone else who knows about codes concur on the March '67 build date? Is this the earliest known Bay ever? Possibly a prototype/development vehicle?

Not doubting you fella, just surprised! Can see how the 05 3 is 5th March, but what on the M-code plate denotes '67? I don't know much about numbers/codes, but on the chassis plate, wouldn't the 8 of the 238 mean '68 build? Like I say, I don't claim to be knowlegeable on the subject, just very interested!

I read that as a 68 if you go to Monkey spinners site where hes recording all the Chassis numbers then his 238010188 being an august 67 (68 model) preceeds this and Paddy56 238 110 927 feb 68, I thought the 8 on the chassis number denoted the model year as 68.....

Have just checked on http://www.alltheprettybusses.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and yes, it says '67. Seems odd to me that it has a campmobile option on the plate if it is so early? Kempy, shed a bit of light on what you have got/found here! ;)

Despite what the decoding site says, and with Araon confirming my thoughts on the '8' and him having checked the number sequence, surely it must be a '68 build. Was getting quite excited there for a while!

Even Laurence Meredith's Original VW Bus confirms that a march 67 would read 2*7110815 - 2*7120468

and that the 1967 dec 31 chassis number equaled 2*8073585

Guys

This is the chassis plate off my LHD French Early Bay from August 67 so I would definitely say it refers to March 68 not 67, the 8 in the chassis number refers to a 68 model year (July 67 onwards) as Araon has suggested.
