What is an m plate and where is it ?
is it the same as the vin plate ?

ive been lookin at the m plate website but not sure how the number works , or where it is on my bus !!!
 
many thanks sparkywig.....found it, put the details in , and found stuff i didntr know.....didnt know u could get a 1700 motor in 1970 ! cheers mate

It's got a weight plate back there though.

Don't forget that the VW Museum at Wolfsburg will supply a 'birth certificate' that provides more or less the same information. If memory serves it is about £40 though :cry: . Good to pop in your windscreen at shows. :D

THAT WILL BE 71 MODEL YEAR,starts august 70 to july 71.you have small 5 wheel bolts and front discs?

You cant it was made available for the 72, a short lived venture replaced by the 1800

It sounds as though Mrs Hoskins might have misread the M plate coding, which is easily done, especially if it caked in years of paint and crud.

My understanding is that the code in question is the 11 on the second line (see below), meaning manual transmission and type 1 engine. What does yours read, Mrs Hoskins?
 
Got mine sorted, I was looking at the wrong side! :roll: :lol:

Still not sure what it all means! :p
 
Quite right , cock up on the number reading, its an age thing :lol: .........its a number eleven ......manual trans , and a 1600 engine, lotus white and sent to Ramsgate !!.................and 42 yrs later its turkis green and living in the Midlands
