What is the correct bumper type for a '71 Bay (profile shape I mean)?.
And would it (as Stock) have been painted steel or chrome steel - presumably not Stainless steel then?.
In any event what would you advise now (cost effective solution)?.

Many thank's......JIM.

Jim
it should have White painted steel bumpers on it I would have thought

OK thank's - would they have been the 'square profile' (what I call the Volvo look type) or the more often seen radius edges type in '71.

Anyone?......cheers -JIM.

PS: As the van itself is white I'm thinking contrasting paint - or chrome,
any idea if chrome is readily available (and does'nt need a mortgage  ).

Not sure what you mean as such when you say Volvo type but by that I think you are referring to late bay bumpers, a 71 should have EB ones as per my buses below.

square profile 73>...chroming a bumper wont come particularly cheap, and it will need to be mint condition, paint it yourself will be cheaper, powder coat and again it will need to be arrow straight and rot free and you'll be a couple hundred notes light in the pocket, nip round to your local sprayer with a prepped bumper (stripped, filled and smoothed ) and your getting closer to 50......

Much obliged for your input's , now know which ones are Kosher for a '71 -
still fancy chrome but contrasting colour is probably cost effective....but what colour -decision's, decision's.......................
Thank's again -JIM.

Yep - good idea, can you get them (in the style of pic's above)?,
if so from where - anyone know.............?.
I am serious, a white van man needs a focal point

Love this site.........cheers - JIM.

Usual part websites seem a bit vague on 3 part front Bumper's (except St.Stl option :? ) and even vaguer on the 1 part rear Bumper for a '71 -
are they readily available in primed steel?......where?, thank's - JIM.

I've only seen the stainless ones for sale too which are expensive. The rear ones that I've seen are technically split screen bumpers with slash cut ends and studs to mount them on instead of nuts and bolts.

If your bumpers are fairly straight it would be more cost effective to get them stripped back, panel beaten to shape, filled, primered and painted. So long as you do the prep work yourself as Araon has already suggested.

Details on fibreglass option. They do look good actually

Thank's again boy's, for all the input, as it turns out not an issue right now as I viewed today (minus bumpers) and decided against it for a number of other reason's :( - so still looking  .
Yes I'm traditional too, but have to say the all in one Bumper would be less grief than 3 bits/joint's.............as you say 'eye of the beholder'...
Regards -JIM.
