Can anyone recommend a "mechless" radio - the last time I messed with car radios was before the CD was invented.

Am really just looking for something to play music off memsticks/phones/Ipod

DAB could be good, but I find even in the house the aerial is pretty sensitive to positioning, so have doubts if DAB would be any good on the move ??
(maybe we are just in a DAB black spot)

...oh, and need plenty of volume for when we're cruising at 45 MPH !

I've an old 60s motorola radio. took lid off, disconnected the radio feed to the volume control, wired up headphone jack with two resistors and bingo - i play my iPhone through it now. had the radio, and resistors cost me 76 pence for two. single speaker mind, but good enough..... you could try this route

I'm thinking of getting this.
Retro yet modern.
