well im a busy man but talking about mikes bus wont get it done... getting up at the crack of dawn will though
another early morning saw more progress. i thought id try the sliding track cover on the bus just to see what it looked like

very nice! 8) 8) 8)

the eagle eyed may have noticed we have primer! after lots of long blocking i thought id stick a coat of primer on so i can see whats happening, also its been in bare metal for a while so best to protect it
its looking pretty straight to be honest, the front hasnt been done yet but its helping to move the project along

and also this afternoon i used by extensive range of contacts to find some good bay doors, so i picked up these babies! real nice original paint californian imports...sweet!

Mike these have the holes for the square side markers, i can weld them up but i was thinking as your the "king of bling" maybe refitting a pair, they look cool and are quite useful when pulling out at night?

You know me! Go for bling. Ideally I'd get a load more chrome mirrors fitted as well so it looked like the Ace Face's Lambretta in Quarophenia.

Can't say I like that cream colour. Looks too much like all those Westys you see everywhere (ducks for cover).

By the way - Baldrick, our lineup at Herne Bay will look great with two Chiantis and Chris' van... any blue van which happens along will be a nice contrast too of course.

would you belive the primer is actually mint green! honestly i was very suprised to see it was cream in the pics? :?:

ill add a set of side markers to the ever growing list called "stuff i need for mikes bus" ;)

Mike, two things...

One will you have any money left to be able to drive you bus once Chris has finished?

Two...will Chris let you take it anywhere near the salt air of the seaside? He has put so much work into this that I think when you get it back it will only really be "on loan" from him!!!

Money? I'm not paying him! I'm blackmailing him!!

Drive it? It'll be on a trailer.

peppercorn, at the rate im going i reckon volksworld show!

mike just to let you know i trial fitted the doors today and they fit really nice, its all coming together! ;)

Good to hear the doors are fitting well, if you can get everything done for Volksworld it'd be great. Great to read so many positive comments and you are all right - Chris and Morris are some great work. It's odd how ideas come together - the post which started all this was...

Unfortunately I deleted the pics a while back from Photobucket.

As you'll see I'm not one to take advice!

after lots of cutting, bending and cursing.... ive got the new lower front to line up. dont you love repro panels!
IMG_1697.jpg

the indicator holes in the repair panel were not only in the wrong place but were wonky! friday night special i reckon

is that butt or lap joint?

work looks good.

thats the beasties johnny, they are real handy.
;)
the front panel has been joggled and the new panel will lay in the recess, the reason i joggled the front panel is that any moisture that runs down the inside of the panel runs over the join rather than collecting in the groove and rotting out. ill be seam sealing the join on the back as well.

i thought so, ill be doing the same. just wondering how those fasteners are released after welding?

you get a special set of pliers with them that "open" them up, its hard to explain but basically you drill a hole, put a clecko in the tool, put it in the hole and release and it spreads open at the rear clamping the 2 pieces together, when finished just use the special pliers to release the clecko and weld up the drill hole! ;)

oh and mike....we have doors we have doors we have doors!
