Ok so i have one new ish door mirror and one OG one , the trouble is i cannot get either mirror to stay still , an absoloute nightmare when trying to overtake on M25

So do i need new mirrors or is there a trick to get the buggers to stay where I place them as i cant stand another mile of driving looking at the white line in my offside mirror all the way home

Cheers people !

Are they flopping down or folding in?

I'm guessing you know the collar moves and you hold the mirror in place whilst you turn the collar with a spanner to tighten it against the door?

Do you have the plastic washers inplace between the mirror fitting and door and also the springs in the mirror mount?

I had problems with my old mirrors that were missing both washers and springs but since I replaced them for new mirrors they stay solid as a rock at motorway speeds.

I can take a picture of the washer and spring tomorrow if required.

To confirm , the L/H/S one is flopping in against door , :(

And the R/H/S one , mirror head is falling down , pointing to road , :? Cant see a way to tighten this ???

I tried overtaking once, found that blind spot in the mirrors. Or rather found that mondeo in the blind spot and decided life was better spent hugging the hard shoulder.
But my mirror slowly works it way down too, will have to look at it one day

With the RHS, against the door is the collar, if you rotate the entire mirror anti clockwise it'lll expose some threads, you can then turn the collar clockwise to tighten it against the door whilst holding the mirror in the desired position. The collar might have seized onto the threads though.

With the LHS you might be able to tighten the nut at the bottom of the mirror arm, not done one for ages but I remember they tend to get brittle.

Might be easier just to get some new mirrors! The stainless steel ones from Custom and Commerical are nice quality.

shall i bring the BIG hammer sat to fix that Ad'

Thanks but I'm thinking I might go with the other, less hammer orientated advice. If it does not work then by all means release the big hitter!

Graeme, the drivers mirror used to do the same when I first got my bus then Dad showed me how to tighten it
If your free at some point over the weekend bring it round :D I might even make you a cuppa

Grazy,

I told you those mirrors would break if you carried on looking in them!

Wear a mask - they'll be fine after that ;)

Try to find some good OG ones rather than new. They should be pretty stiff to move. (As if the mirrors are of any use in a LHD Panel   )
