Hi all,

I've got a 1970 westy, with a period radio in the original aperture, just wondered if anyone knows of any modern radios that will fit in the same hole or are they all too big??

I'm fed up of driving along twiddling my knobs ( ) trying to get a decent radio signal!!

Cheers,

Matt

I've got a retrosound Classic in my dash. Looks pretty original with black face and black knobs. Was a little over £100 refurbished from the states if I remember correctly.

Same here although I wish it had only cost me £100!

It all depends on the size of your hole

Please correct me if I am wrong but....

If it is an original radio then the likely hood is the hole will be smaller than required for a 'modern' (after 1984) stereo.

All stereos manufactured after 1984 conform to the DIN 75490 standard, which is either single DIN (180 x 50 mm panel) or double DIN (180 x 100 mm panel) size. So measure the size of your current radio apeture and see if matches this size or not. The likelyhood is it wont :(

Your choice what you do from then on, you could make the hole bigger so a modern radio would fit (personally i don't like sawing holes in my dash)

Or get a modern radio and put it in the glove box which is quite popular as it maintains the original look of the dash and gives you lots of options. I have even seen double din multimedia DVD systems in the glove box linked to rear tv monitors/reversing cameras etc.

Hope this helps, if not just ignore me and move on, most people do

Thanks for all the replies, I'm unsure what to do if I'm honest, I do like the retrosounds but they're not cheap! I do use the glovebox for pretty much everything so can't really sacrifice that. May look at making some kind of under tray to mount under the dash.

Like I said I appreciate all the thoughts and didn't even know about the retrosounds until now so cheers for that option too!

Buy a shelf under dash to put all the stuff on and use glovebox idea 8)
