Hi,

My 72 crossover passed it's MOT today which is great but it did initially fail on a "new" directive. This was not having the batteries fixed down via a strap, or something similar, in the engine bay. They never have been so it must be new.

Just thought I would let you guys know.

Cheers

I'd say it's good practice but I wasn't aware that it was a requirement - mine was held in place with a piece of wood, largely because there was a feckin big hole in the battery tray.

All sorted now and held in place properly, but wasn't even discussed at mot time, only 4 weeks ago

Mines got a special quick release battery clamp (bungee cord)

This was one of the changes publicised last year, but has only just actually come into effect. Battery must be secured.

You can get an aftermarket battery tray and clamp on eBay for about £16. They just bolt in, and protect your proper tray from acid corrosion. Well worth the money. Also saves the battery from tipping over which may cause a short circuit which in turn, ends up with a fire in your engine bay. Not good!
