I'm in the process of swapping my block over and notice the moustache bar has 3 bolts holing it to the old one but only the top right and bottom one on the new one , I also notice the sump is a plate type not the disk shape like the old one , just wondering if this is a common thing as I'm assured it came from the same bay as mine , curiouser and curiouser!

Early bays need what's known as the "universal" case - ie one with the three bolt holes. If your "new" case is missing a hole it most likely came out a beetle originally. You can get an adapter plate to bolt on to the oil pump ( heritage / machine 7 etc) to allow the case to be used - but you wont then be able to use a full oil flow system, and I would be a bit wary of putting too much strain on the pump mountings - this sounds like guaranteed oil leak time! If you are not too far down the line I suggest you look for another case. Search this site for "moustache bar" and you will find a few guys with similar problems.
