What engine are you running?

You were keeping up with me well easily on the way back from Volksworld, and I've had the 1302 box conversion done too....

Its a stock 1600TP as far as I am aware, its the same one that was in the bus when I bought it, it looks pretty ugly but goes pretty well....

I had to peel off the A23 on the way back from VoWo (was that spence in front of you?) to pick my daughter up from my mums in lindfield, headed back to brighton over ditchling beacon, the bus went up it in third gear without much fuss, I guess I have got lucky so far the engine :D

A few more preparations for camping!

Took out the old roof hammock canvas, it wasn't much use!

And replaced with a new one from Rackhams, really pleased with it.

Going to need the extra space this year as we had an addition to the family late last year. So hopefully my 3 year daughter will be OK up top, she has always slept on the bunk over the front seats in the past.

Also sprayed the wheels black, was fed up with rusty white and now I don't need to worry about brake dust on the fronts :D

Hi mate

Yeah that was me... I'm also running a 1600tp but on a non stock 31PICT carb, which cuts down my power whilst drinking too much - Steve overtook me in no time!

This week I've been rebuilding a 34PICT, hopefully I'll have it fixed up tomorrow, 5hp more with a bit of luck

Loving your steering wheel, may have to copy you :D

Spence

I saw you last Friday on the A23, I went passed beeping the horn in my MK1 GTI cab. Bus is looking good mate 8)

Hi Spence, the steering wheel was from fifty six deluxe, I love it, the only gripe is that the horn push is plastic, would be perfect if it was metal also

At the end of the week its off to have a bit of work done, the OG windscreen seal is coming off and the bits rust sorting, fingers are crossed its not too bad under there!

Also I am mid cab door refurb, popped the cards of to free up the locks as they where getting sticky, the drivers one was a bit knackered, so planning to graft the OG vinyl onto some fresh board

Then I've got some new rubber to fit to make the doors water tight again. This is what I found inside the door..

My favorite recent photo to finish off

Hey Paul, yes good to meet at Breeze. There has been talk of a new year gathering so will keep you posted.

Dungerness was cold and windy! We also got a late night visit from the armed police patrolling the powerstation. Think they where relived we werent jihadists just a bunch of pissed blokes :D The pub closes at 9.30 which caught us out. It's a good place to explore and the warden was cool about us camping overnight.

Windscreen done now, just a bit of welding needed to fill some small holes. So hopefully it will last like the first.

Cheers Andrew.

Bit of an update...

Decided to seek professional help and after a recommendation took the bus to Karl at Wolfburg Wizards to have the front screen seal replaced and the spots of rust sorted, not to bad underneath, this is the first bit of bodywork I have had done on it so far, so was a bit nervous!

You can see the layers of paint on this pick, the OG pastel white, then a strip of blue - the belt line was once painted blue, and the more recent but still old white over the top. Pics nicked from the WW facebook :msn4:

Another layer of paint which looks great but I'm going to have a bash at ageing it so it blends in with the rest of the tatty paint work 8) Really pleased with how its turned out... cheers Karl!

Changed the outer scrapper on the passenger door last week, not a fun job, still building up courage to do the drivers side, maybe tomorrow if the weather stays fine!
Also need to get the vapour barriers and door cards back on to keep it all nice and dry for the rest of the winter.

Cheers, Andrew

@Ego & Banana... cheers dudes!
Jeremy, I saw your bus at Karls when I dropped mine off... some upgrades?

@68_early_bay thank you - that photo was taken on my way to work at the beginning of the year, love it too, a good image of my trusty steed... rain, freezing fog or sunshine :D

Yes, I now have brakes ( Futbus disc conversion and Creative Engineering wide 5 rear drums ). It's the first time it stops properly and holds on the hand brake since I've had it :D . All standard everyday stuff to you with a 71.

That is good news Jeremy.... Welcome to the seventies!
Funny this as when I was searching for a bus I only wanted an EB and I wanted disks for safety, thus I thought the only option was a 71, and it took a while to find a good one.... had I know about disk kits I would of bought one earlier! such is life..... knowledge is king!

Hello, we'll its been 10 months since an update so I thought I should share some adventures with you all. With some lovely weather this summer we had been out camping quite a lot and really enjoying the bus as a fun-bus not just a daily driver as it gets used as most days.

I've been posting quite a few images on Instagram so I know some off you would already have seen them if not follow me @mister_mellor for Earlybays, sporadic food porn and sky's...
