I'm bored in work and read once or twice you all like piccys :) Also feel I owe some time and pics for all the good advice received over the last few months.
After some months of nagging from the wife for a campervan, I finally agreed on the condition it had to be a earlybay.
This is what she had in mind, viewed at FBI swansea

After looking at quite a few vans over a few months I saw one looking very sorry for herself, the wife wasn't with me but my kind mum had driven me to warwickshire to view(i was in plaster with a broken leg).
The van was not what the wife had in mind but after 2 hours dragging-hobbling myself around it I had a good feeling about her and just had to have, I phoned the wife and she as always just said " I trust your decision you decide"................... well 10 mins later fee was agreed and deposit left . Must thank at this point Ian from warwickshire (thesamba) for a very smooth transaction very decent honest guy from my experience.
When I got home these are the pictures I had to show the wife, I was just crapping myself a bit ;)

Well that was a month or so ago and were still together, the van has come on ok, first sorted the lights and wiring out as they where a mess (my soldering and use of a fluke has come on leaps and bounds), and then put it straight in for a MOT just to see what she was gonna fail on, to my surprise 1 failure offside rear brake binding, I nearly fell over when I was told  ,

work done since, interior surface rust removed and spayed, rear seats recovered thanks to my mother, new curtains made again thanks mum, new shocks all round. new brake hoses and shoes, engine serviced, fumigated not sure about some of those funny looking spiders lol, replaced front seat with better originals, cleaned many times by the wife and 3 year old, rear window seal, tailgate seal, drivers door seal window scrapers and winder mech, new washer pipes, cab carpets, tan inertia seat belts for the kids, clear wax oyl underneath, floor boarded and covered with a wet room style vinyl antislip, interior cupboards glued and new bolts and brackets, new ply for side panel, new insulation (sheeps wool) when in wales.
Externally just primed the rear corners to protect from the weather and squiged some silicaset in the holes where the slide hammer and a awning had been. ooh registered insured on the road
Thats it for now as the new pics are at home, but over the w.e I'll update, cheers for taking the time to read :)

Nice pics and welcome!
I opted to not allow my wife to see any pics until the complete exterior had been fully baremetaled and re-sprayed as I'm a chicken!!....and it looked alot worse than yours!!
Still now it's pretty much finished and in use it has now become 'our' bus instead of 'mine'!!
Good luck with the rest of it.
Cheers
Al

At least your wife was nagging you and not the other way round :D .

I bet you found some of them little american coins under them seats !
I did in mine,
Keep up the good work :)

Nice. Looks like you did the right thing and bought a basically sound, un messed with bus with little corrosion. If the basic vehicle is sound the rest is relatively easy and inexpensive to fix (compared to a large welding type restoration).

Dont forget to thoroughly treat the underside with something like "blackwax" and wax inject all the cavities with Dinitrol or similar to protect your import from the UK climate.

Best of luck, the bloke I brought my bay off told me that VW get under your skin. It a bit like having a pet... He was right! :)

I must say that this is a great website and I am new to it myself and i am also in the same position as you.

My bay is in pieces and being painted at present ! Keep on posting the pictures of your progress!

Thanks for all the replys, not much work done this week really but here are some more recent pics. been faffing with the autochoke today with no good outcome it still dont work. All the rain has highlighted how bad the door seals are, arghhh, and if it stops long enough in the morning I'll fit the interior and will be of to volksfest wales.

I saw this in the flesh today and........what a great bus. The OG paint is going to buff up beautifully with only a couple of areas to blend in from old repairs. Keep up the good work. 8)
