Hi guys,,,,apparently my heaters need re connecting, the mechanic had his head under by the rear wheel whilst I moved the red levers in the cab which were stuck and he said he can see its not connected,,and they also have cable ties under the van where it needs reconnecting.
Why would some1 dis connect this? And where can I find a diagram of how to re connect properly??
Any help please
Thanks dean :)

You may have answered your own question there. The dash levers often play up leaving the heating in a permanent ON position. The easiest fix is to disconnect the heater under the bus rather than address the fiddly problem behind the dash. Here is some info and a useful diagram.

Should also mention that a few veteranss here who can build an engine, weld and paint, yet still opt to disconnect their heaters in the summer and reconnect them when the weather turns. You know who you are.

You may also find they are beetle heat exchangers and the cable ties have been used as the levers are in a different position on the beetle ones, not a difficult fix at all but worth replacing the cables front to back if you can and using new connectors at the heat exchanger end

Or you can leave them cable tied on all year round, and just roll along with the windows down - with yer gansta lean on out the window... ;)

Apparently.. :msn4:

Got bloody hot this year tho - 30+ on our war back from wales, sitting in the m25 roadworks , might re-think this option on mine

Just bend the levers on the heat exchangers themselves so they are permanently open for winter, only takes 5 mins to bend them back to close when it gets warm again

Hi,

As my engine is from a US Spec Bug, i have bug HE, so as you know, the lever is in the wrong place, I had heard you could bend it upwards to fit the bay cables, but never tried it, didnt want to brake it permantly, it's nice and toasty warm with the OG ones.

Though as mentioned ^^^^ it's a bit too hot on a baking sunny day - though if it is that hot, you should be camping and chilling not driving round the M25! ;)

Cheers,

Alistair
